SOLDIER SETTLERS
SEVEN MEN PLACED HOLDSWORTH SUBDIVISION Following a Rehabilitation ballot for Returned Servicemen, which was drawn last week, selection was made of seven men, who will be settled as sharemilkers on the Putiki block, the late Holdsworth property at Edgeeumbe. Another ballot for a further seven men will be made probably in twelve months time and the property will then have its full complement of fourteen farms. Throughout the year, considerable work has to be done by way of subdivision fencing, and the building of seven houses, eight cowsheds, and piggeries.
The successful men were: D. A. Shannon, Awakeri; J. S. Dodunski, Edgeeumbe; M. D. King, Awakeri; W. P. Olsen, Whakatane; A. H. Evans, Edgeeumbe; F. Sykes, Taneatua; and R. J. Conney, Paeroa. These men will be commencing their new duties early in the month. One thousand heifers will be provided as a nucleus for their future herds.
Mr J. M. Alexander, on behalf of the Land Development Department, will be supervising the properties, until taken over by the individual returned servicemen.
