GENEROUS GIVERS

WHAKATANE’S FINE RESPONSE CLOTHES DRIVE FOR C.0.R.5.0. Three car loads of clothing,, much of it in first class order resulted from Saturday’s drive in y the interests of the local C.0.R.S.O. branch. All morning the voluntary collectors with the assistance of the Boys Brigade members and Boy Scouts drove their cars throughout the Borough and utilising the Red Cross Headquarters, Commerce Street as their depot, had soon an imposing pile for the lady sorters to work on. The remarkable fact attending Saturday’s success, is that already this year, if the R.S.A. canvassers are to be included, this town has supported, and supported well no less than five drives for clothing this year. In each case we understand that the Response has been excellent, a very warm tribute to the ' splendid generosity of the townspeople as a whole. All collectors report a friendly reception everywhere they went. Many people who were unable to supply clothing stated that they had recently cleared out their wardrobes for other deserving cases, and regretted their inability to give further. Others again have undertaken to send their parcels down to the Red Cross depot. A surprising feature was the fine type of clothing presented. In some cases it had even been dry-cleaned; in others carefully washed and ironed. Baby’s clothing, which is urgently appealed for overseas, was also in strong supply.

to express its grateful, appreciation to all who assisted in carrying out the drive, and particularly to those generous housewives who were responsible for the donations of wearing apparel and footwear.
