FEDERATED FARMERS

BAY OF PLENTY BRANCH GRANTED PROVINCIAL STATUS The Bay of Plenty has been granted provincial status in Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Inc.) Advice to this effect was conveyed to the last provincial meeting of delegates of the various branches by the Bay of Plenty delegate to the recent Dominion Council meeting (Mr A. L. Friis). v Mr Friis, who, was president of the provisional executive presented a report to the meeting and after this the first provincial conference was opened. He was also elected president of the newly-formed province of the federation.

In his report, Mr Friis stated that, knowing the primary interests of the executive would be in the confirmation of its provincial status, he had much pleasure in reporting that the Dominion Council, having received the necessary confirmation of all branches in the Bay of Plenty, confirmed the Bay of Plenty as a province in Federated Farmers.

- The president congratulated those members of the provisional executive who had laboured so long and so earnestly in that endeavour. It was gratifying to know their efforts had been brought to a successful conclusion.

In conclusion, the speaker explained that as that was his last mission to Wellington on behalf of the provisional executive, he desired to thank members for the unqualified support he had been accorded at all times and often in very trying circumstances.

A vote of thanks to the president and secretary (Mr S. J. Parker) for their efforts in promoting the interests of the Federation in the Bay of Plenty district and obtaining provincial status, was carried. It was decided, when discussing the question of the appointment of an executive, that there be one delegate from each branch up to 100 and one for every other 100 or part thereof.

Mr Friis was appointed a delegate to. the Dominion conferences.

Messrs. H. S. Holmes (Opotiki) and D. Ross (Te Puke) were elected vice-presidents and Mr Sr J, Parker secretary-treasurer,
