Swiss Watches in Short Supply
A local jeweller has received notification from an Auckland importing firm that Swiss watches will be extremely hard to procure in future owing to the deluge of American orders which have been placed and the fact that the New Zealand Government failed to issue the usual importing licenses for three or four months later than normally. Chromium and gold watches are not expected under twelve months and rolled gold watches under twenty months. Reduced Telegraphic Rates As from Saturday June 1, the charges for telegrams from New Zealand to all parts of the United States of America and Alaska, Guam, Hawaiian Islands, Midway, Porto Rico, St. Oroix and St. Thomas, will be reduced as follows: Ordinary telegrams Is lOgd a word; code telegrams (CDE) Is 3d a word; deferred telegrams (LC) 11 hd a word; daily letter telegrams (DLT) 7£d a word with a minimum charge of 15s. 7id as for 25 words.
