CREAM STAND DANGER

INSURANCE COVER QUESTION

In response to a recent enquiry, the State Fire and Accident Insurance Office has notified the Whakatane County Council that it is prepared to issue a public risk policy in the council’s name, for all owners and/or users of cream stands, rural mail boxes and calf pens situated on public roads within the County. The limit of indemnity is 2500 in respect of any one accident and £IO,OOO in any one year of insurance. A franchise of £2 applies to each claim. The office reserves a right to request alterations or improvements to cream stands etc., and if such alterations are not made within 14 days, the cover in respect of the particular structures ceases. This does not include indemnity for liability arising out of cattle stops or loading banks or the like. Premium payable has been fixed at 6d per holding with a minimum premium of £5 and a maximum premium of £SO per County. The policy would cover the liability of the owner and/or user of the cream stand and not the ordinary public risk policy.

The council resolved that the letter be referred to the Rangitaiki Branch of the Farmers’ Union for comment and to the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Co.
