FOOD FOR BRITAIN
RED CROSS CAMPAIGN ■ URGENT APPEAL LAUNCHED In common with all centres, throughout the Dominion, the local Red Cross organisation will launch an intensive Food for Britain campaign throughout the month of June. In this appeal the Whakatane residents f * can be confidently expected to respond willingly and liberally by donating either in cash or in . kind. No appeal is dearer to the / heart of New Zealanders than • one dedicated to the long-suf-fering people of the Old Country, who today are on the verge ■of starvation mainly through , their good neighbour effort to , save the millions in Europe. The foods that the centre despatches cater mainly for hospitals, invalids, children, the aged, the expectant mothers. The Gift. Food Allocation Board, London, submit lists from time to time of the classes of foods required and from the lists submitted the most suitable selections are made. This obviates uneconomic or haphazard buying, does not interfere with rationed goods such as meat or butter which are dealt with by national export, and works in with gift food items supplied by other Dominions and the United States.
