RETURNED SERVICES

ANNUAL MEETING HELD ELECTION OF OFFICERS At the annual general meeting of the Whakatane Returned Services’ Association, held in the King Street Hall recently, there were approximately 150 members in attendance. Mr L. H. Brown presided, and Mr Malone, District Vice-President from Te Awamutu was also in attendance.

In presenting his report, the chairman stated that the ground covered in the preceding year, had been considerable. Ten Executive meetings had been held, and a full attendance had been recorded in each instance. He extended his thanks for the assistance and co-operation received in this respect. Total membership, he added, had increased to 623, representing an increase of 200 in the year. 391 were ex-2nd N.Z.E.F. men. General business dealt with included the alteration of the rules at a Special General Meeting held earlier in the year whereby a resolution was passed increasing the annual subscription to 10/- per annum, in accordance with the wishes of Headquarters, so that all Associations would be uniform in this matter.

With regard to the recent Queen Cai’nival, the president stated that the success of this had been beyond all expectation. This was most gratifying and the thanks of the Association were due to the public for the wholehearted support offered. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr Frank Prideaux (auditor) and the Borough Council, which allowed the Association free use of its Chamber for meetings. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:— President: Mr L. H. Brown (reelected). Vice-President: Mr Dave Wilson. Sec.-Treasurer: Mr G. A. Head. Maori Representatives: Rev. Rangi and Mr I. Tunui.

Committee: Messrs. L. Roach, Geo. Otley, N. Patterson, D. Wilson, A. Hall, H. B. Cutler, G. W. Mexted, McGill, J. Bryant, T. Macken, L. Luxton, R. Bluett, J. H. Armstrong, G. Santon, Jack Stewart, C. R. Wilson. Auditor: Mr F. Prideaux.
