AWAKERI Y.F.C.

PREPARED SPEECH EVENING A good attendance of members of the Awakeri Branch of the Young Farmers’ Club was present at the last meeting which took place in the Awakeri Hall recently. The evening was particularly interesting as a number of members delivered short prepared speeches on various aspects of agriculture. Mr W. Rushbrook, Headmaster of the Awakeri School, acted as chairman and at the conclusion, congratulated the speakers, many of whom had not previously had the experience of addressing a meeting. His constructive criticism and general hints and advice were helpful, and the lads, at whom it was direct«ed, should no doubt benefit. The following speakers: R. Andrews, J. Hanna and R. Hoyland and D. Tuke, S. Luttrell and L. Hoyland were chosen to represent the affirmative and negative sides respectively of a debate to be held the following week. The subject stipulated was: “That the cinema has had an undesirable effect on the moral welfare of the community.” A vote of thanks to the chairman, brought the meeting to a close.
