MAY COURT LIST N Before Mr E. L. Walton S.M. in the Whakatane Court on Tuesday the usual traffic offenders list was dealt with, being brought under the Transport Department and also by the County Traffic Inspector. Walter Mark Hume who drove a vehicle without the necessary warrant of fitness on December 3 was fined 10/- and costs 12/-. A similar offence cost George Coburn a fine of 10/- and costs 10/-. For exceeding the speed of 40 m.p.h. on January 18 last, Patrick O’Rourke who pleaded that he was endeavouring to avoid the dust of the oncoming traffic on account of his wife’s illness, was fined £2 and costs 12/-. Jack Owen Fletcher driver of a School Bus, was charged with also exceeding the speed limit, the County Inspector’s evidence being that he reached 45 m.p.h. Defendant produced evidence to show that the speedometer on his ’bus was faulty, and that when checked up by the inspector showed a difference of 11 m.p.h. Fined 20/- and costs 22/6.
