SAVING OF FATS

C.0.R.5.0. COMMITTEE MEETS

CONSERVING FOOD COUPONS

At the meeting of the C.0.R.5.0. Food Sub-Commit-tee last Monday, Mr Trask, the Postmaster, who has undertaken the organisation for the collection of food coupons, stated that already coupons to the value of 4Q£lbs of butter and £3O worth of meat had been handed in during the past fortnight.

Mr Trask added that as more people came to know of the coupon saving scheme, he was confident that these figures would be greatly improved. He undertook to compile a suitable circular covering the salient facts of coupon saving which will be distributed later to all householders. Miss L. M. Lawes was elected secretary to the sub-committee and the office of chairman will be filled at the next meeting on May 24. Collection of Fats The question of collection of surplus fats throughout the town and district was a major question which occupied the meeting for some time. It was felt that whereas many people might be willing to co-operate, the method of collection, rendering, packing and despatching in suitable containers was one which would make for considerable work on its own. The matter was finally left in the hands of Mesdames Winstone and Norman to bring down a suitable plan for adoption at next meeting to which will be invited representatives from the Women’s Institutes and W.D.F.U. branches. The chairman of the General Committee in the meantime to contact the local butchers for their co-operation and advice. Forthcoming Street Collection The ladies present agreed to accept the invitation of the Men’s Finance Committee) to co-operate in the matter of holding a C.0.R.5.0. street collection on Friday, May 24. Prior to the date an effort will be made to present suitable window displays in town and in Kopeopeo indicating the wide variation in the New Zealand rationing of commodities and those obtaining in Britain at the present moment. The event will be further marked by the inauguration of copper trails run by the Senior school children both in the Strand and at King Street.
