WHAKATANE GOLF CLUB On Saturday last there was a good attendance at the official opening of the Whakatane Golf Club.

In a short speech the President, Mr L. W. Luxton, welcomed the visitors and new members and after* driving the first ball declared the links open for play for the 1946 season.

A mixbd Canadian Foursome was played over 9 holes and the good scores returned showed the players’ appreciation of the excellent state of the course and the ideal weather conditions.

The winners of the competition were A. W. Winstone and Mrs Otley 42—11—31 closely followed by N. Ducker and Miss Hyland 46—13 33. There will not be a draw for the first round of the 36 hole Eclectic competition to be played on Saturday, May 4. Members are requested to choose their own partners on arrival.

Seniors start from No, 1 tee and Juniors from No. 10.
