TOA DELAYED

LOW LEVEL ON BAR ENTERS PORT THIS MORNING The M.V. Toa, which has been waiting outside Whakatane for nearly four days, for the bar to show sufficient depth of water for it to cross, finally managed to enter the port this morning. The vessel left Auckland last Wednesday, and was due at Whakatane the next day. It was unable to cross the bar, however, and continued on to Kutarere where a quantity of cargo was discharged. It arrived back off Whakatane on Saturday, and as stated, was forced to wait until this morning before managing to effect an entrance.

The bar at present, is the lowest it has been for the past 20 years. At low tide yesterday, 18 inches proved to be the depth of the water. Owing to the delay of the boat, many of the shops in Whakatane were sold out of various types of provisions yesterday and Monday, whilst carriers also experienced difficulty in maintaining supplies of petrol.
