SPORTSMEN MEET

WHAKATANE ROD & GUN CLUB DOG TRIALS AND SHOOT Last weekend was one of activity for the Whakatane Rod and Gun Club, which sponsored on the Saturday a field day for sporting dogs, and on the Sunday a sweepstake shoot.

Although the entries for the Field Day were not large, all who attended enjoyed themselves thoroughly, the standard of those dogs which were entered being high. Mr H. Lewer, a well-known sportsman of Rotorua, and late of Hamilton acted as judge, and much valuable information and advice was gained from him. - The results of the trials were as follows:

Puppy Class: Mr F. Matchitt’s ‘Clyde’ 1; Mr M. Matchitt’s ‘Boxer’ 2. Open: Mr H. Jackson’s ‘Patch’ 1, Mr F. Matchitt’s ‘Clyde’ 2, Mr W. Kenyon’s ‘Roger’ 3. Water Trial: Mr S. Kerr’s ‘Jock’ 1, Mr H. Jackson’s ‘Patch’ 2. Results of Shoot For the shoot, which was held on Sunday, excellent entries were received. Results recorded were as follows: Eyeopener, 5 birds: -A. Powdrell shot the possible. J. Penny, S. Kerr and W. Hume divided second money with 4 birds each. Sweepstake, 5 birds: S. Kerr, R. Bluett and W. Hume shot the possible and divided the stake.

Swe'epstake, 10 birds: R. Stephenson won with 9 kills. S. Luttrell and A. Mitchell ran second with 8 birds each.

Quail Drive, 5 birds: R. Ricketts, A. Mitchell and J. Penny tied with 3 birds each and divided the stake.

Sweepstake, 5 birds: J. Hayward, W. Kenyon, A. Powdrell and E. McGougan each shot 5 birds and divided the stake.

Novelty Points Shoot, .5 birds: A. Powdrell and C. Turei tied with 10 points each for first with A. Mitchell and R. Bluett second with 9 points. Sweepstake, 10 birds: A. Powdrell and C. Mitchell tied for first place with 9 birds each whilst R. Ricketts and W. Mayo shot 8 each for second. Sweepstake, 5 birds: J. Hayward, A. Powdrell and J. Tebbutt shot the possible and divided the stake.
