WELCOME HOME
’ DANCE AT WAIMANA A welcome -home dance was held in the Waimana hall last Wednesday •evening in honour of Able Seaman Fred Ruff, who has returned home after over four years service in the Navy. The opportunity was also taken to wish luck to Private Graham Wardlaw, a member of the J Force, who, unfortunately, was unable to be present.
The dance music was supplied by Mr and Mrs King, whilst Mr F. Sterling acted as M.C. After supper, Mr J. L. Burnett on behalf of all present, asked the guest of honour to come forward and accept a small gift as an appreciation of what he had done for those at home and his country. Able Seaman Ruff replied thanking the gathering for the gift and pleasant evening accorded him. Mr Burnett also extended best wishes to Private G. Wardlaw.
Dancing continued until midnight when the National Anthem closed the evening.
