EDGECUMBE SCHOOL
HOUSEHOLDERS MEETING ACCOMMODATION QUESTION The meeting of householders held in the school did not attract a large attendance. Mr J. Nielsen presided. In his report the Chairman of the School Committee, Mi 1 R. Withy, disclosed steady improvement generally regarding transport and sv/jaiming bath construction, but explored the lack of accommodation. Plans for additional classrooms had been passed and tenders called but the one tender submitted had been rejected as being too high. No tenders were received at the second call, but it was hoped a third call might attract tenders for this urgent work. Though improvement to school transport had been made, their was room for further improvement and he urged this matter receive constant attention.
Sufficient money was on hand to proceed with the construction of a swimming podl, but shortage of steel reinforcing was responsible for the delay. The balance sheet disclosed a credit balance. f Election of the new committee resulted as follows: Messrs. R. Withy, W. Goldsmith, J. Vickery, A. Gibson, S. Learning, C. Newbiggin and T. Ward. Unsuccessful nominees were Messrs. J. Roberts and M. Cannell. Retiring members who did not
seek re-election Messrs. J. H. Rus-
sell (Hon. Sec.), H. Qualye (Treasurer) and A. Thomson, were thanked by Mr Withy for their active cooperation during their term as School Committee members.
