Easter Claims No Toll
In the Whakatane district, the Easter Holidays claimed no toll by way of accidents. Although the number of cars on the road has definitely not yet reached the pre-war level, and the wet weather no doubt kept many .at home, it is gratifying to think that those motorists who did venture abroad exercised sufficient care to avoid adding to Easter’s usual toll. A Record Mile
One of the best races at the Gala Day at Waimana was the one mile handicap event. The time recorded, 4min. 42sec. was the fastest for the season, and was put up by L. Ducker. The finish represen cod' one of the closest for this type of event witnessed in the district, inches only separating the first three men, Ducker, R. Laurie and B. Johnson respectively.
