DENTAL HEALTH
SCHOOL, CLINIC STATISTICS PAST YEAR’S WORK The total number of children attending the dental clinic at Whakatane, and the sub-bases at Taneatua and Ruatoki, is 1146, and includes pupils from nine Native and European schools, together with a number of pre-school children.
The above information was revealed in a report on the work covered during the past year, from the Officer in Charge of the School Dental Clinic, Miss S. Tong, presented at the recent meeting of householders to elect the 1946-47 School Committee. Further figures covered the number of operations performed during the year, and also the various schools attending the main clinic and sub-branches.
The Whakatane Clinic roll, which was shown to number 730, was attended by pupils of the Whakatane, St. Joseph’s Convent, Paroa Native, Thornton and Wainui Road schools. Pupils from Taneatua, Waimana and Opouriao schools attended the subbranch at Taneatua, with a total roll of 216, whilst Ruatoki Native School was served by a sub-branch of its own with a roll numbering 200. At the two former clinics children of pre-school age were also treated. Details of operations' performed over the past year were shown to be as follows:
Permanent Teeth Filings: 2599. Deciduous Teeth Fillings: 3287. Extractions: Permanent Teeth 11, Deciduous Teeth 319. Silver Nitrate Treatments: 194. Cleaning and Scaling Teeth: 1439. Miscellaneous Operations: 566. Total Operations: 8632. Total Attendances: 3065.
