CARE OF THE TEETH
SCHOOL DENTAL CLINIC BIENNIAL REPORT PRESENTED At the recent meeting of householders, in connection with the election of the new School Committee, the following report was received from the Officer in Charge of the School Dental Clinic, Miss S. Tong: In spite of numerous interruptions, broken time, difficulty in transport of country children and change of staff during the past year, the standard and number of operations has continued to be high and the number of patients treated, very satisfactory although there are still many patients not receiving treatment because of difficulty in obtaining suitable transport to the clinics. Owing to the continued increase in numbers of patients under treatment, the total roll is now too high for the satisfactory revision period of six months to be maintained, with only two nurses operating. Hence arrears of work overdue, are continually putting the revision period further back and so gradually the.children are receiving only one treatment per year. The co-operation of parents and teachers in seeing that appointments are kept and encouraging the use of the tooth brush regularly, as well as correct nutritive feeding, would do much to help lighten the Nurses’ work. Until more Student Dental Nurses are trained/ the present condition of staff shortage will continue. We would therefore encourage more girls to take up this interesting profession and so help the community in this fight against Dental Disease. In the meantime the Nurses operating will continue to do their best.
