MORE ACCOMMODATION

ADDITIONAL ROOM AT INFANT SCHOOL The question of the overcrowding of the Infant School and various methods of relieving the position was thoroughly discussed at last week’s meeting of the Whakatane School Committee when it was finally decided to write the Board requesting that an additional classroom be built.

Discussing the subject, the chairman (Mr J. W. Wilson) suggested that the committee should perhaps wait until the side school at Ohope was established, as this was expected to relieve the Infant Schol of a number of pupils. The Headmaster (Mr I. B. Hubbard) pointed out that this would in all probability have no effect whatsoever, as at present an extra 25 or 30 pupils were expected to be enrolled, and this would in any case, necessitate a further classroom.

Mr F. W. Lysaght said that in his opinion, the committee should push for a proper room. It was no use partitioning off a corridor, or remodelling a shelter shed as a temporary measure, -for then it might be months before anything permanent was done.

As stated above, the committee decided to contact the Board pointing out the necessity for a room at the Infant School, and urging that it be constructed without delay.
