PUBLIC LIBRARY

ANNUAL MEETING HELD COUNTRY SERVICE QUESTION At the annual general meeting of the Public Library the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:— President: Dr. E. T. Dawson: Hon. Secretary: Mr C. W. Good. - Hon. Treasurer: Miss D. B. Harding.

Hon. Auditor: Mr D. V. Saunders. Committee: Mesdames J. W. Wilson, Winstone, Wallace, Miss Lawes, Messrs. I. B. Hubbard, J. W. Wright. The financial year ended with a small debit balance of £1 15s 9d. 142 books were purchased during the year at an average cost of 12/-. The. advantages of the Country Library Service were discussed and regret was expressed that the service appeared to be beyond the means of the committee. From information received from the Country Library Service it appeared that a minimum subsidy of £l5O would be necessary to operate the Service successfully. It was resolved to write to the Borough Council asking for a grant of £52 towards the cost of running the Public Library during the ensuing year.
