OVER ONE HUNDRED POUNDS

BUSY DAY AT POST OFFICE First Day Cover fiends invaded the Whakatane Post Office throughout Monday, the day of the first appearance of the handsome set of New Zealand Peace Stamp issue. Over £IOO worth , were sold, and no less than 209 decorative envelopes were registered. The ‘rush’ constitutes a record for Whakatane as far as the demand for new stamp issues is concerned and we understand was repeated in a lesser degree throughout the district. In conversation with one postal official, we learn that our town has become extremely stampminded over the past few years and that collectors of all denominations are becoming more and more prominent.
