BOXING
♦ CONTESTS IN GRAND THEATRE A FULL-SCALE PROGRAMME A good programme has been arranged by the Whakatane Boxing and Wrestling Association for the contest which is to take place in the Grand Theatre on Saturday evening. Through unavoidable circumstances, Bill Parris and Vic Caultaux will be unable to make the trip to Whakatane, but spectators may definitely look forward to a bout between Frank Hutchins, and a worthy opponent. A feature fight will be that between J. Tate list. 81bs. Morrinsville and Army Champion) and H. Candy list. 61bs. of Whakatane (ex-Middle-weight and Light-heavy Champion of Taranaki). Four bouts have been arranged between Whakatane boys —N. Bunting, J. Hudson, H. Watarawi and P. Tenaiti and boxers from Tauranga, whilst a number of other local lads will also be contesting, making a total of nine bouts.
Doubtless the enthusiasm shown for the recent wrestling contest will be even more, marked in the case of the boxing, for the majority of the fighters will be from Whakatane, and consequently, well known to spectators. Included in the programme is an exhibition bout with Frank Hutchins, Professional Middleweight, who, we understand, has been running organised boxing classes in Whakatane, which have been attended by a number of local lads in preparation for Saturday night. All in all, the contest should measure up to expectations in all respects, and will doubtless be worthy of full support.
