MEETING AT AWAKERI The Awakeri branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its monthly meeting in the Awakeri Hall on March 20, Mrs Haultain presiding over a good attendance of members.

After the reading of the Creed correspondence was attended to and members were asked to bring their used stamps to the next meeting. These are to be sold in aid of branch funds.

Mrs K. Stewart, of Whakatane, very attended to give a demonstration in the making of gloves and of felt bags, and brought samples of work to show members. Her help and advice were much appreciated and she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

The smocking competition was won by Mrs Wilson. The winners of the competitions were as follows:• Best flower, Mrs Haultain 1, Mrs D. MacDonald 2, Mrs Brizzle 3. Best fruit: Mrs Allan 1, Mrs McKenzie 2, Mrs McGougan 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Allan 1, Mrs-Mc-Kenzie 2, Mrs McGougan 3. Afternoon tea concluded an enjoyable meeting.
