WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

[ MEETING AT EDGECUMBE The March and annual meeting of the Edgecumbe Women’s Institute was held as usual in the Presbyterian Hall. Mrs Burgess presided over a large attendance of members and friends, and in her opening remarks extended a special welcome to Mrs Withy. Apologies were received from several members, who were unable to attend.

The business of the day included the election of president and committee, Mrs Pearse becoming the new president. Final arrangements were made for the Eisteddfod. Mrs Mexted was proposed and elected as Institute delegate to attend the forth- | coming Dominion Conference in | Wellington. Mrs Burgess then took the opportunity of thanking the secretary and all members for their co-operation during the year. Mrs Blair on behalf of all members presented Mrs Burgess and Mrs List with pretty bouquets. For the annual meetings, correspondence was dealt with and the report and balance sheet were read and adopted. A vote of thanks was extended to Mrs C. Thompson for her work as auditor.

Mrs Withy addressed the meeting in her usual pleasant and helpful ! way, at the conclusion of which Mrs Burgess presented Mrs Withy with-a shoulder spray and bouquet. The hostesses for the day were new members enrolled during the year. Prizes for the year were then presented as follows: Talent, Mrs List 1, Mrs .Spiers 2, Mrs Malpas 3. Best flower, Mrs Learning 1, Mrs List 2, Mrs Wilson 3.

Monthly competition results were: Best flower, Mrs Wilson 1, Mrs Robb and Mrs List equal 2, Mrs Nowland 3. Actor, Mrs Colebrook 1, Mrs Newbigin 2, Mrs H. Carter 3. Tomato Sauce, Mrs Martin 1, Mrs R. Burgess 2, Mrs Mexted 3. Raspberry jam, Mrs Martin 1, Mrs R. Burgess 2.
