A TRIBUTE

THE LATE MRS APPLEBY The news of the passing of Mrs Appleby, wife of Dr. F. J. Appleby, was received with profound regret. St. George’s Anglican Church, Whakatane, could not hold the large number of friends wishing to attend the funeral service. There were hundreds of beautiful floral emblems sent by mourning relatives and friends.

Throughout her long residence here Mrs Appleby was interested in all organisations for the public good. Highly cultured and endowed with many gifts, she gave of her best—unstintingly. She was a brilliant pianiste and associated with her husband (violinist) gave many musical recitals for public benefits. Had she so desired, Mrs Appleby’s musical ability would have taken her anywhere.

A great lover'of flowers and garden generally, her interest in and practical work for the Horticultural Society, will never be forgotten. As one of the original and Executive members of the Lyceum Club, she was indefatigable in her work for each of the circles of the above club.

Dunedin was her birth-place and there she resided and received her musical education, until her marriage in 1917. The deepest sympathy is extended to her husband, son and daughter in their great loss.
