Hours of Banks Banks intend reverting to three o’clock closing on Mondays to Fridays although it is not practicable to give effect to this immediately. This information has been given by the chairman of Associated Banks in New Zealand in response to an inquiry. The subject he said, was receiving careful attention, and an early announcement would be made when the change would be implemented.

Number Plates for Cars Motor registration number plates will be issued again when the new licensing period starts in June. There will be no more stickers. The manufacture of plates is being undertaken by a Wellington engineering firm which is calling for men for the work. They are difficult to get. Confirming the fact that arrangements had been made for the issue of plates, Mr G. L. Laurenson, stated that some of the old plates were much “knocked about” after several years of service. The plate system facilitated road checks on thirdparty insurance.

Motor Transport for Fertiliser Road transport has been used for some weeks to assist rail transport in the distribution of fertiliser, according to a letter from the Commissioner of Transport, Mr G. L. Laurenson, received at the meeting of the Auckland Executive of the Farmers’ Union on the 20th instant. The executive at its previous meeting had written to Mr Laurenson, suggesting that, owing to the shortage of railway waggons, road transport should be called upon to speed up the deliveries of fertiliser.
