PIPE BAND RE-UNION

COLOURFUL ROTORUA DISPLAY

WHAKATANE WELL REPRESENTED

Whakatane was well represented at the South Auckland Pipe Bands Victory Re-union which took place at Rotorua last Saturday before large and appreciative crowds. The event can be said to have reinstated the pre-war prestige of Pipe Bands in the district and to have given a great fillup to Caledonianism generally. Bands from Hamilton, Tauranga, Morrinsville, Whakatane and Rotorua attended and the parade through the town was unanimously declared the most spectacular seen in Rotorua for

many a day. The inclusion of 18 girls marching teams from Morrinsville, Paeroa, Hamilton, Tauranga, Ngongotaha, Rotorua and Whakatane gave an added interest to the parade and display on the Rotorua Racecourse. The standard throughout in all respects was excellent. The street march which must have embraced a procession a good quarter of a mile in length was spectacular for the high grade piping by the kilted bands as it was for the gaily attired young women and girls who were also conspicuous for their bearing and smartness. The list of awards was under:— Individual Marching Competition: Tauranga (Gordon tartan, Pipe Major L. Johnstone, Drum Major, J. Downey), IQO points,' 1; Hamilton (McLennan tartan, Pipe Major S.
