WHAKATANE ROD & GUN CLUB
SHOOT ON NEW PROPERTY The first shoot to be held by the Whakatane Rod and Gun Club on its new field on Mr N. W. Goile’s property at Paroa took place recently, a large number of club members being present.
Mr J. D. Rivett opened the day by officially welcoming the shooters, and he called upon Mr Goile to fire the first shot. Keen entries for the various events were recorded, and the standard of shooting, taken all through, was generally high. The club is at present negotiating for a ten year’s lease of the property. Following are the results in detail:—
Eye Opener, 5 birds: S. Hurst, W. C. Davies, J. Tebbutt, S. Kerr and J. Hayward tied for first with five birds each.
Sweepstake, 5 birds: M. Matchitt. Novice Sweep, 5 birds: W. Kenyon. Trophy, 5 birds: J. Hayward, W. Reynolds and J. Tebbutt tied for first with five birds each. Hayward won in the shoot off. Quail Drive, 5 birds: M. Matchitt and D. King tied for first with four birds each. Trophy, donated by Mr C. L. Hudson, Cutlers Hardware, 10 birds: J. Plamus, A. Mitchell, A. Powdrell, S. Kerr and J. Tebbutt tied for first with nine birds each. A. Powdrell won in the shoot off. Sweepstake, 5 birds: J. Hayward, J. Tebbutt and M. Matchitt tied for first with five birds each. Sweepstake, 8 birds: M. Matchitt and S. Kerr tied for first with eight birds each. Novelty Shoot, 5 birds, first barrel: Reynolds, J. Tebbutt, W. Davies, A. Powdrell and W. Stephenson tied for first with four birds each.
Novelty Shoot, box: W. Davies, M. Matchitt, A. Powdrell and J. Tebbutt tied for first with four birds each.
Sweepstake, 3 birds: D. King, W. Davies, J. Tebbutt, F. Matchitt and M. Matchitt tied for first with three birds each. M. Matchitt won in the shoot off.
