SHALLOW BAR
DIFFICULTY AT HEADS Exceptionally shallow water, caused by a combination of the prevailing drought and neap tides is at present causing concern. Over the past week there has been scarcely six feet of water on the bar at high tide in place of the usual eight or nine, and the coastal vessel Toa scraped and stuck at the bottom for a few minutes on Wednesday when she was being piloted out. Drought conditions have considerably reduced the level of water in the river and at the river mouth, and consequentevery second week, when neap tides obtain, trouble, which will only be alleviated when more rain falls, will be experienced. .
