CARNIVAL ATTRACTIONS
EDGECUMBE SPORTS MEETING
Final arrangements are being completed for the Edgecumbe R.S.A. Welfare Memorial Committee’s Athletic and Axemen’s Sports Carnival, which takes place in lioldsworth’s Paddock on March 2, commencing at 10 a.m. A full programme has been drawn up and competitors of championship standard will be competing in Athletic and Chopping events. Children’s events, novelty competitions, chain stepping, and weight guessing will be continuous throughout the day. Tea and lunch are in the hands of the ladies, who guarantee prompt and efficient service. Hot water will be available at all times. A produce stall will offer books, poultry, produce and other goods at bargain prices. Popular quick raffles will be run, all books will be on display at the raffles tent. Sideshows will be as popular as ever. One of the highlights of the day will be the beer drinking competition—run under strict supervision with teams of six. Freddie Burt will once again be handling the ‘mike.’ To generally add to the atmosphere of gaiety, the Whakatane Boys Band will be in attendance. A special bus will leave the Rock fpr the sports ground at 10 a.m. where an' enjoyable day is assured. A Sports Dance in the Thornton Hall in the evening, will conclude the day. For this latter event, fur-, ther buses will leave the Rock and Edgecumbe at 8 p.m.
