DAMAGED
GOODS FROM WHAKATANE
■ POSTAL ADVICE NOTE
Advice has been received from the Chief Postmaster, Thames, that on the 14th December last a fire occurred at Tuakau in a railway van containing mails. Although the fir.e was suppressed within a short time after it was 'first noticed, damage was caused by fire and water to a number of packets and parcels contained in the mails f Particulars of the damaged mails are as follows: — Raglan to Auckland 2 receptacles Cambridge to Auckland 4 receptacles Opotiki to Auckland >1 receptacles Taneatua to Auckland 1 receptacle
Where possible, all articles contained in the mails have been deliv-j ered ho tKe addresses or returned to the senders. Unfortunately however many articles were so badly damaged, as to be of no value and have been destroyed. In .numerous other cases the. contents, became separated from the wrappers and these items are now held by the Chief Postmaster pending enquiries. It is regrettable that most of the articles damaged in the lire appeared to be Christmas gifts.
