COMPLETION WANTED “The competition of tlie gap in the Gisborne-Auckland railway and the steps to lie taken to achieve this objective has been the most important piece of work that the Chamber has had in hand during the past yeur ? ” slates the annual report of the Gisboi-ne Chamber of Commerce now in circulation among members in anticipation of the annual meeting to be held on January 30. “In March last this chamber organised a very large and representative meeting In. Whakatane comprising representatives from all Chambers of Commerce from Auckland to Gisborne; all members of Parliament from the same area and many local authorities in this district the object of the meeting being to take such steps ns were desirable and necessary to bring before Parliament tiic necessity of completing the last link in the North Island railway system.
“This was followed in September last by a combined deputation from the Auckland and Gisborne Chambers supported by other interests waiting on the Minister of Works in Wellington to urge upon him this
important work. “The deputation met with a very favourable reception from the Minis who promised an early survey of the possible rente. There is therefore reasonable grounds, for hope that before with the ample labour that will he available from tlie returning seivicemcn a commencement in earnest will 'be made on this work of national importance.”
