WHAKATANE COMPETITORS DO WELL
COMBINED PAEROA MEETING Whakatane Amateurs did exceptionally well at the combined sports meeting at Paeroa on Anniversary Day. One Championship was won lor 1 lie town when McGougan cleared 20ft 9in in the broad jump. There, were six seconds and six thirds in other events. The results must give a great fillup to the local club members of which will be holding their next meeting in the. near future. Local competitors gained the following places:—
Ladies’ Relay (2): Whakatane 2, C. and B. Mexted, Burstall and Chadwick. School Girls under 16: Miss Burstall 3. 75yds Women, Ist Heat: Miss G. Mexted 3. One Mile Junior: B. Mexted 2. Two Mile Junior: B. Mexted 2.
Broad Jump (Senior): McGougan 1 (20ft 9in). Junior Hop Step and Jump: Carling 3. (The winner Rhodes 43ft 7in created a record). 220yds Senior: Parkinson 1 in heat 3rd in final. Senior High Jump: Kelly 2. 220yds Women: Miss C. Mexted 3. 440yds Senior: Dawson Burke 3. 440yds Junior: Oswald 2. Putting the Shot (Senior): McGougan 2. Hop Step and Jump (Senior): Kelly 2, McGougan 3.
