TIMELY RESCUE

NARROW ESCAPE FROM DROWNING A narrow escape from drowning was had on Wednesday between 2.60 p.m. and 3 p.m. when Tommy, second son of Mr and Mrs H. Hitchens of Toroa Street, slipped accidentally into a channel of deep water a little past the wharf. His struggles attracted the attention of Pio Williams, 11 year old boy who was swimming nearby. He arrived just in time to drag the lad ashore in a semi-conscious condition. Resuscitation was applied by Mrs Charlie Hollis of the Heads Road, and the victim was revived.

The warmest praise is due to young Williams for his presence of mincl in saving the lad.
