ANNIVERSARY DAY

Probably never before lias a Beach

Picnic at Ohope been arranged on suculi progressive lines as the big picnic on January 29 (Anniversary

Day). Sponsored by the Old Veterans’ and Businessmen’s Committee of the R.S.A. Queen Carnival, the funds will lie placed to the credit of the Business Princess Miss Beverley Armstrong.

Looking at the programme, there is practically eveiytiling for the entertainment of both young and old, every event to be held right on the beach in front of the Surf Club Pavilion. Besides running races for all classes additional highlights which Avill attract great interest are the Treasure Hunt Sand Castle Com-

petition,. Juvenile Swimming races in the Ohope Pool, Axemen’s Events, Bathing Beauty Contest and Girls’ Marching teams. Seven teams at least will take part in this colourful marching competition, for which they are training thoroughly. For the children’s sake, as well as

their own, parents cannot afford to miss this tremendous and unique outing. Buses will run from Rua,toki, Matata, Te Teko, Paliou, Poropoiv and Whakatane, while refreshment and catering stalls will be set up to supply every want.

Side shows and other novel ea~ tertainments and competitions, combined with the pleasures of a day at Ohope Beach, all make for the greatest day’s fun'in 1946!

Keep this date free, and. finish the day well by attending the Monaster Dance in the King Street Hall at night.
