COUNTY HALF DAY
REMAINS AS IN THE PAST
WEDNESDAY UNTIL JUNE
A special meeting of the WbakaJ tane County Council last Tuesday decided to Jix the statutory half, holiday for townships in the County as Wednesday until June. 30 when the matter will he taken up by the ndividual unions with a view to making Saturday the universal holiday .
The Chairman (Mr J. 1,. Burnett) said that until June it Avas still the prerogative of the individual local bodies to fix the usual half holiday for the week. Cr Wardlaw said that he could not see anything Avrong with the present arrangement Avhereby Wednesday was the recognised break. It had served its purpose A*ery avcll and he moved that it he retained. Cr Luxton: If after June they bring in fche universal holiday on Saturday Avill that mean that our County storekeepers Avill have to comply Avhether they like it or not? The Chairman: Oh yes !
