BALLOTS TO BE HELD

TEN FARMS FOR SERVICEMEN Ten more farm units in the Wellington Land District are shortly to be made available by ballot to ex r servicemen intending to settle on the land states the Rehabilitation Department. Four of the sections are in what is known as the Kereru Farm Settlement between Shannon and Levin. They are open to eligible ex-servicemen of the war just past avlio have been graded "A" for dairying (in the case of three sections) and for dairying with sheep (in respect of the fourthXsection) for the Manawatu district. The property was formerly owned by Mr and Mrs W. E. KiLsby and Mr E. Cresswell. The ballot will be held just before Christmas. Part of the Purakau farm settlement formerly owned by Mrs L. E. Barton, the six other sections are situated a few miles from Feather.ston. They are open to ex-service-men graded "A" for dairying in the Wairarapa district. Flat, alluvial land largely laid idown in good English grasses, they range from 90 to 200 acres each. Here again as yet only one section has a dwelling already standing. The ballot for these latter sections is to take place in mieVJanuary. For both the Kere.ru and Parakau sections, allotment will be made provisionally. The successful applicants will work on a wages basis (£5 10s a week plus 10s cost of living allowance) until necessa/y development work has been completed. They will then be given the.option of taking the property over either on a renewable lease or an agreerment lor s.ale and purchase.
