POPULARITY OF THE 'HEADS'
NO previous holiday period has seen the Whakatane Heads, and park in such popular demand by picnickers and visitors. The small settlement on the town's seaward side is growing more and more attractive as time goes on.- Residents have undoubtedly done their part towards this, and it remains now for the Borough Council to improve thes drab road approach and the unkempt sea frontage; A delightful walk might be likewise excavated from the clifll face to the point—perhaps a good year resolution for the Chamber of Commerce to keep in mind.
Little'-known Otirawairefre Bay The quiet beauty of Ottrawairere Bay, reached by a twenty r minute tramp round the point from Ohope Beach has had immense appeal to a growing number of visitors this year. One party from Palmcrston North who it ? as they called it described Otirawairerc as a beauty spot which would be hard to beat anywhere. But for accc*s ( they declared it would have been their intention of camping there in preference to Ohope.
An Ideal Sports Ground The potentialities of the grounds and, environments of the Caledonian Sports meeting on New Year's Day. were the source of much, comment from visitors from all parts of the Dominion. One well known sportsman from Wanganui said that with the money available, for comparatively slight improvements he could undertake to transform th» grounds into a sports held with natural vantage, points for spectators which would be second to none.
