END OF YEAR DINNER PR ES lON TAT lON OF AWARDS On Tuesday evening last the Whakatarie Volunteer Eire Brigade held its annual end of year dinner. Members of the Brigade and the Fire Board were present. After dinner at the Commercial Hotel, the gathering adjourned to the fire where the evening was continued with items, a toast and. presentation of awards to firemen. 'The toast list was interspersed with a number of enjpyable items by firemen the artists presenting a good evening's entertainment. The presentation of awards was carried out by the Chairman of the Fire Mr S. S. Shapley, the Board being responsible for the donating of the prizes. A recent! examination in fire, work resulted' in Firemen McDonald and Dent be-i ing placed first and second respectively and both received awards. Secretary Allen was the winner of a competition—(llosc.and Coupling) with Fireman' Roulston a close second. Mr Shapley warmly congratulated both and made a presentation to each. The 5 years menial was presented to Fireman Jaclt whilst: the final two-year bar, representing J 23 years of fire fighting ? w r as presented to Superintendent F. Stewart. i The toast list was as follows: — 'Loyal Toast'.—Superintendent F. Stewart; 'Firemen Killed in Action' —Superintendent Stewart; 'Members of the Fire Board'—Superintendent Stewart and Messrs putler and Creeke: 'The Visitors'—Deputy Hurndell and Messrs Lysaght and Drube; 'The Ladies'—Fireman Norman and Fireman Roulston; 'Returned and Returning Firemen 7 — Secretary Allen and Fireman Head: 'The Artists'—Fireman Skelton and Driver Miles.
