PAROA v TANEATUA In a competition game played at the weekend, Paroa scored an outright victory over Taneatua, winning by an innings and 52 runs. The game was played under showery conditions and considering having to contend with' a greasy the performances were very encouraging for later in the season. Paroa had first use of the ?.nd put on 73 runs for the first wicket, through a line partnership between H. Grant 36 retired and R. Cleland 31 retired. Some hurricane hitting then took place Smith 2!) and Gillam 14 both being caught on the boundary in attempting big hits. Wells 30 retired, played quite soundly to further increase the score. Two other players Martin 11 and Collins 12 also reached double ligures. Sykes Was the most successful bowler for Taneatua taking 5 for 41 while Burstall and L. Green took 1 each. t Taneatua's innings started badly the first wicket being down with only 2 on the boartl ? but a good partnership between L. McCrcady 17 and Semmens 23 took the score to 34. before the latter was unlucky to be run out. None of the other Taneatua batsmen could make a stand and they were all out for 78.. Bowling for Paroa Cleland 3 wickets for 15; Smith 2 for 18 and Gil-i lam 2 for 18 were the chief wicket takers. Taneatua followed- on but fared even worse being all out for -57. A. Green 23 being the only batsman to reach double figures. McGougan 4 wickets for 24, R. Laurie. 2 for 6 and C. Smith 2 for 11 did the damage leaving Paroa the winners by an innings and 52 runs.
