Two Maori youthSj Kima Lawson and Henry Kingi, of Paroa ? appeared before Messrs G. A. Brabant and C. H. Christensen at the Whakatane Court on Wednesday charged •vitjb) that on October 3, they were found without lawful excuse } but in circumstances that did not disclose the commission of or intention to commit any other offence in a building, to wit the domestic quarters of the Whakatane Public Hospital.
Sergeant Farrell ? in asking for a remand for eight days } stated that both accused had given their ages as 19 years. .There was f iioav some doubt as to the actu il age of the boys and the position was, that if they were under the age of 18, ' they were entitled to the protection afforded by the Child Wei-* fa"re Act.
The Bench granted a remand for eight days to allow documentary proof of accuseds' age to be obtained.
