SUCCESSFUL ENTERPRISE

OTAKIRI OPEN SHOW

MANY ENTRIES RECORDED

The Open Show, recently held un-

der the. auspices, of the Otakiri Women's Institute, was- an unqualified success. It was the first of its kind to be held in this district, and judg-

ing from the interest shown by the general public the organisers would be doing the district a good by making it an annual event.

The show benches were packed with entries 303 being displayed and all of a very high standard. Judges, from Whakatane Matata Awakeri and Edgecumbe did not have an easy task. The school section attracted large entries, which were full of interest to the many present during the afternoon . A beautiful floral display arranged by Mrs V. Peck, and the display of georgous orchids arranged by Mrs Jim Carter created much interest and added to the attractiveness of the. show. The ice cream and soft drink itall was a very busy corner an,d the new stage was ideal for' the serving of afternoon tea. During the afternoon the President, Mrs K. Armstrong, took the opportunity of expressing the thanks of the committee to all who had helped them so generously to: the judges and to the donors of the Points Prizes. A sheep, donated by Mr Peck, was won by Mrs O'Sullivan, who later put it up for auction. A beautifully iced cake in the shape of an Early Victorian Lady, donated by Mrs Armstrong, was won by N. Pope.
