SCOUTING INTERESTS
CITIZENS COMMITTEE MEETS ANNUAL MEETING AND SOCIAL The. annual meeting and social gathering of the Whnkatane Citizens Scout Committee attracted a large assemblage of Scouts Cubs and their parents to the Caledonian Hall last Wednesday evening. The chairman Mr Naden gave a comprehensive report an the >ear's progress and announced that the balance sheet showed a credit balance of £71. Tile chairman's report referred to the troops success in the recent rally when it had won both the Fergus Boyd Cup and the Tiki trophy. The. Cub pack too lie had won the competition for the ; 'oyer Shield and thereby proved itself the leading pack in the Bay. He complimented the Scoutmaster, Mr E. Hughes on his: work and referred also to the splendid training of ex-Scoutmaster who unfortunately had been compelled to resign during the year owing le illhealth. The Avor'k of Mr Atkinson in connection with the running of the card evenings and also of Mr and Mrs Rivett who supervised the hire of the cups belonging to the committee. was also mentioned. Concluding Mr Matthews thanked all committee members and officers for their co-operation and loyalty and added that with the prospects of peace ahead still greater progress, should be made. The election of officers resulted:— Patron: Mr B. S. Barry. Vice-presidents: Messrs G. Dainton, \V. Sullivan j G. Brabant, Mulliolland Mclsaac. Secretary: Mr N. Matthews. Committee: Messrs D. P. Dixon s R. Chadwic'k, J. Baker. R. T. Hurndell y C. Zinsli; Mesdame's Windley ? r.c odall , Dixon, Baker ? Kilgour. Auditor: M;r L. King. It was left to the first meeting of the new committee to appoint a chairman. The Commissioner who was present congratulated the troop on its progress and also complimented the committee on its sound financial position. He doubted whether there was any other Scout Committee in a town of Whakatane's size which enjoyed the same happy position. He also complimented and thanked the old committee for making over the sum of £50 for the development of the Rotoma camp "site. Following the meeting a social hour was spent 'in games and competitions in which the parents were invited to participate. A feature was a one act farce illustrating how not to treat a severely injured man. The skit was put over by a group of adults, and one or two Scouts and met with a great reception. An enjoyable supper was then served by the Ladies' Committee.
