| LOCAL COMMITTEE MEETS FULL PEACE-TIME PROGRAMME An extraordinary meeting was held in the Borough Council Chambers on August 24 last at 2 jj.m. There was a large attendance with Mrs W. Sullivan in the chair. Mrs Sullivan reported Mrs A. G. Allan had made. 10 blazers for the Polish children's camp and Miss Pat Allan and a group of her friends had made 6 6 blouses and (> nightdresses. They were very well made. Other sub-centres had sent in garments for the camp. She would be glad if those sending in garments would stitch the age-group on to each article. Mrs Sullivan said the committee must decide on the future of the Red Cross Shop. Sir Ernest Davis liacl given the shop rent free for the duration of the. war and the committee was very grateful to him. The shop had taken an amazing amount during the war period. The Heads topped the various districts with a total sum of over £293. Ladies present expressed their opinions and it was decided to carry on till September 30, proceeds to go to the completion of the Building Fund. The president said she would like, to thank all those ladies who had given so much time l'or their excellent work and loyalty. Some of them for various -reasons', were no longer on the but they had. all worked hard. She would especially like to mention Mrs ;Ramson } who was head of the Red Cross organisation during the last war ? and had done such good work during this war as convener for the Sewing Circle. As far as; she was concerned she was glad to h'ave the time and opportunity to do the work that had to be»done. There was a big peaces time programme ahead. The main work for a long time would probably be refugee relief. Having their own Headquarters would be of great assistance in keeping the movement active. The next meeting will be held i n the Borough Chambers on October 9.

Eastern Bay Centre A meeting of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Centre was held in the Borough Council Chambers on August 24 at 11 a.m. with Mrs W. Sullivan in the chair.) Regard to an appeal from Headquarters for a donation towards buying bales of wool to send to Greece the Whakatane sub-centre decided to send £12 ? the price of one bale and also the price of a second bale, the cost to be shared between the five other sub-centres. It was decided to order from Headquarters 501) Xrnas cards that were being specially and 50 copies of the Junior Red Cross magazine for distribution. Mrs Winstone said the Patriotic Board had donated 354 knitted garments and 241bs of khaki wool to the Red Cross Society. The Centre expressed its and decided to despatch the garments for overseas relief. Mrs N. Semmens reported on the Junior Red Cross Conference in Wellington which she had attended as Centre Organiser and delegate. Mrs Winstone also reported on the annual meeting of the Dominion Council in Wellington, The discussion of post-war work was wide, ancl s}je had brought, home some ideas lor the Centre to adopt. Mrs Winstone reported also that she had neen elected to the Dominion Executive. It was decided to hold the next meeting on the second Tuesday in October. _____
