U.N.R.R.A. APPEAL

EXCELLENT RESPONSE

People of Whakatane and surrounding districts are responding excellently to the U.N.R.R.A. appeal which was inaugurated several weeks ago ? according to the latest and warm useful clothing of every description! is being donated freely to the cause which will save millions of lives, in devastated countries. The appeal which was made personally and through the Press has resulted in a continuous ilow of articles of clothing into the Red Cross Shop in the Stranxl which is the main centre for sorting and padding. On Friday ? the school pupils held a house to house collection, the results of which were very satisfactory, and the pupils and teachers acted as the sorting and packing committee. The entire appeal is under the control of the Red Gross Society and a committee under Mrs Moran is Avorking overtime on the receiving end to keep up with the con r tinual (low which never fails to cease coming in. So far seventeen large cases have been packed and made ready to send off. They contain a large variety of winter and under clothing, much of which is almost new and all of which will

be invaluable to men, women an.d children, whose only hope of life now rests with U.N.R.R.A.
