ANNUAL SOCIAL
WHAKATANE CITIZENS' BAND
The Annual Social staged by the Whakatane Citizens' Band was held in the Band Room on Thursday evening there being a good attend* ance of boys and parents present. On behalf of the guests and menv bers of the Band Mr A. J. Canning extended a hearty welcome to Don James recently returned from the; war. The presentation of prizes was then carried out the recipients being Jimmy Miles (Prize for Good Attendance), Brian Skelton (Prize for Behaviour and Deportment), and Huia Woods (Special Prize). • Several much appreciated items were then rendered by the and applauded heartily. Mrs W. Jarrett received a special vote of thanks for the interest she had shown and the effort she had put into the work of the Band. The Beginner Class was then put through its musical drill by Mr Jarrett and showed great improvement —the results of constant work and enthusiasm on the parts of both the pupils and the instructor. Supper, in the capable hands of a ladies' committee proved to be of the usual very enjoyable standard and brought the evening to a fitting close.
