CONSERVE THE BOBBY CALVES
SURELY with starving in Europe, it becomes us in the favoured Dominion of New Zealand to study every possible avenue by which we can afford relief to those less fortunate than ourselves. Surely, therefore there should be no senseless slaughter of heifer 'bobby calves' for the next few years until the blighted pastures of France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Austria and Germany herself have been restocked with the desperately-needed herds. This duty becomes a privilege in the face of the unimagined suffering which is gripping whole populations in Europe today-
Fertiliser Allocations The rationing of fertilisers for the coming season is expected to be the subject of an announcement by the Minister of Agriculture at an early date. So far primary production councils have received no definite information on the subject which is becoming a very urgent one to farmers. Those who have recently purchased including returned especially where there is an insufficient allocation? are particularly anxious to know what quantity will be available for the 1945-46 season. The Minister's statement is therefore awaited with keen interest.
Overse'as Telegraphic Seryice Public telegraphic service is now restored to Yugoslavia and telegrams may be accepted at stiplated rates. Messages must be in English or French languages. Code not permitted. Commencing forthwith registered code addresses may also be used as the address of telegrams to the U.S.A. Alaska Hawaii Porto 1 ' 5 9 Rico } Juam } Midway Virgin Islands (St. Croix and St. gliomas) and American Samoa. In addition all restrictions regarding the signatures of messages, to those places are cancelled. Greek language may now be used in telegrams to Greece.
