THE FINAL PEACE
INTEREST in the formulation of a complete programme of celebrations to mark the conclusion of the war with Japan, which will constitute the close of hostilities with the once powerful Axis, is apparently more widespread than most people believed. Last Thursday's meeting brought together one of the most representative gatherings seen in Whakatane for many years. There was a definite desire on the part of all delegates to do something out of the ordinary and unanimous decision to link town and country together for that purpose. It only remains now for those who attended to maintain their interest and co-operate with the secretary in the arduous task of promoting three days' celebrations on as large and as bright a scale as possible.
