WHAKATANE ROD & GUN CLUB SPORTSMEN IN CONCLAVE
Something in the way ol', a bombi shell in the nature of the fact that the old Whakatane Rod and Gtin Club was not interested in reviving its activities until alter the war was dropped at the meeting of those interested in its reformation held in the County Council Chambers on Monday evening.
Mr J. D. Rivett presided over a representative gathering of sportsmen.
The above advice was contained in the reply to a letter to the secretary of the oid club asking for information concerning its activities. No further information; was enclosed. / Mr Rivett stated that he regretted the fact, that they had been left so completely in the dark. The only way apparently to get the necessary information was to form another Whakatane Rod and Gun Club and wait for word from the Affiliation stating whether there was still a club registered under that name or not.
Mr R. Stevenson then moved that the meeting form a Rod and Gun Club under the name of the Whakatanc JRod and Gun Club and apply for affiliation under that name. The election of officers was as under:— Patron: Mr W. Sullivan M.P. President: Mr J. D. Rivett. Vice-presidents: Messrs A. Powdreli, F. R. Coombes, L. Buddie and C. Hudson. Secretary: Mr F. Cameron. Assistant Secretary and Treasurer: Mr G. Dixon. Committee: Messrs. Butler Stevenson? Kenyon j Corbett, ' Zinsli, Jones, D. Pearce, J. Bell and T. Hansen. In respect to members' fees, it was decided to fix these at 5/- with any returned member of the services of this war admitted free for the first year. For the benefit of the younger sportsmen under the age of twenty-one it was decided that in the case of there being more than one in a the initial fee be 5/- for the first member and 2/6 for each of the others. Messrs Bell and Cameron were decided upon, as delegates to represent the club when necessary. A motion that the President, and Mr Hudson do what they can regarding the supply of cartridges was passed. Mr Cameron stressed the necessity for shooting of vermin. This he considered w r as a prime necessity especially in the case of shags and hawks, and by shooting them sportsmen would be helping themselves, as well as! doing service to the community.
