SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION
ST. PATRICK'S DANCE
Dancers from all parts of the district turned out to support the St. Patrick's dance held on Friday evening in the Caledonian Hall. The hall Mas very appropriately decorated for the occasion shamrocks supplying a stage setting for the colourful streamers strung across the floor. Mr Bridgeman filled the position of M.C. and the credit for the entire lack of long dull "in betweens" must, go to him. The Rhythm Tigers gave out in splendid fashion alternating between the good 'Old Timers' and the more modern scintillating swing music. This band, comprising Messrs Horrie Waite, Wallie Lysaght and Len Broadmore proved to be a popular combination and the public were; not backward in showing their appreciation at the conclusion of each number. A very tasty supper was served and was heartily enjoyed by the large crowd. Novelty daixccs j of which there were several were also well up the poll for popularity. Readers may notice in this issue under the Dear Sir column, a letter from two English sailors, namely, Jan Hocking of Cornwall, and Sammy Redmond of Dorset. These two men who are. at present spending a short leave in the. district were in attendance on Friday night and obliged with a solo and a duet which helped considerably towards the success of the evening. Dancing continued till a late hour and when the. 'late hour' arrived, all who attended agreed that it was 'one of the best yet.'
